This is our first group project for this year. The group coil was made first by making a pinch pot and then adding three different types of coils to it. Its 5 inches tall and 5 inches wide. We used mixer clay and red clay. We made regular coils, a braided coil, and spiral coils. We wanted to keep the glaze simple and have it cover an area that didn't have a lot of decoration, or coils. We choose black but it didn't go on as evenly as we had intended but I still like how it came out. The color looks almost a little more blue than black. The art elements shown in this project would be lines, shape, and color. The design elements might be contrast, having the white and darker colors as well as having the coils, braids, and spiral coils.

This is the fourth bowl I made for a first project, I also used raku for this one. It turned out a more cooper color as well with some blue. The bowl itself is taller than the others but its a lot thicker. I think I could have pulled up more and maybe made it a little wider. It also has a foot, which I think turned out nicely. I think when I glazed this one I tried to make it half glazed, half not. For the most part, the glaze didn't run that much but in some areas it did. This bowl is a little bigger than the first bowl I made. I decided to try both of the Raku colors this time. One of the colors is a metallic type of blue with a little bit of cooper. The second color, which is on the outside, is more of a turquoise color. It does have a foot, one that I think looks nice. I think I am doing a lot better at footing. The bowl doesn't have a super nice shape and isn't as large as I would like but I'm still working on making nice looking shapes. The first project we had to make was four bowls. This is the first of the bowls, but I decided to Raku all of them. I hadn't done that before but liked other projects that I had seen that were glazed with Raku. It was thrown with Mixer Clay and has a foot. It is a little smaller than medium size. The color is mostly blue on this one, but anywhere the glaze didn't go is black. It does have some cooper and greenish colors. The glaze didn't run as nicely as I would have liked but it still looks nice. |
